Cal FIRE Awards $180,000 to the City for Fuel Reduction Projects

Cal-Fire-generic-860x484 (1)

The City of Shasta Lake is excited to announce we were awarded $180,000 from the CAL FIRE California Climate Investments (CCI) Program - FY 2019-2020 Fire Prevention Grants. The City submitted an application to reduce fire fuels by clearing 45+ acres of heavy brush/trees, creating a shaded fuel break. This project equates to clearing around 100’ width within an existing rights-of-way north of the City protecting the citizens of Shasta Lake from a fast moving wildfire. Reducing fire frequency, intensity, extent is the primary benefit to reducing Green House Gas Emissions (GHG). In addition to the fuel reduction activities, the grant will fund a commercial wood chipper.

In 2018, the City was awarded $59,994 in Cal FIRE funds. This funding was used to reduce fuel along Lake Blvd, Interstate 5/Parallel, Ashby, Twin Lakes Mobile Home Park, behind subdivisions, and we are currently working along White Way.

We want to thank CAL FIRE for continuing to fund our fuel reduction efforts. #thisisshastalake
